Frequently Asked Questions

What trainings are you currently running?

We are currently running a Level 3 programme, supporting Level 2 graduates in professional practice.

When is the next Level 1 training?

Our next Level 1 training programme will be announced in due course. Please join our mailing list to be the first to hear.

What is the application process?

  1. Fill an initial enquiry form for our support to start (optional) or the full application form when you’re ready.
  2. Receive a contract: We will email you a contract after receiving your application.
  3. Pay the £250 application processing fee: This confirms your registration and secures your place. Payment must be received by the earlybird deadline to qualify for the reduced rate.
  4. Complete payment:
If paying upfront, the remaining balance is due two weeks after the application processing fee. OR, for installment plans: subsequent to the signed contract and £250 processing fee, the remaining balance is spread across 7 monthly payments for earlybird applications, or 5 monthly payments for full rate applications.

In confirming your application, you’ll need to make sure that you have a clear schedule to accumulate your Foundations practice hours and are familiar with being in a group with Leela.

How many hours a week do I need to give to training?

It varies according to how much experience you have with us. Anyone who still needs to gain any remaining Foundation hours will need to achieve those alongside the training.

Payment plans

Foundations payments are made as you sign up to each group/class/workshop.

Levels 1 & 2 require an initial £250 application processing fee once you have signed your contract, and then you can either pay the remaining full fee upfront or pay by monthly installments.

Venue

Our sessions are held at Dartington Trust Studio 6.
This is an internationally recognised studio with an under-heated and sprung floor.

What are the pre-requisite hours about?

The pre-requisite hours form the Foundations level and provide a base of experience from which to dive deeper.

The entry stage of Foundations allows for accruing these hours in local online groups, or if you wish you can attend workshops with our associate teachers internationally or online.

The requirement is to have 50 hours of in-person Soul Motion experience along with 200 hours of wider conscious dance/somatics/other associated dance forms.

See our full calendar of all events that count for Level 1 training Soul Motion pre-requisite hours.

Can I do Level 2 if I haven’t done Level 1?

Only Level 1 graduates can continue on to Level 2. This includes graduates from any other Soul Motion training programme.

Bursary

Those in need can apply for up to €500 support from ICMTA’s Diversity & Accessibility Scholarship (deadline 30 April 2026)

ICMTA and professional memberships

We’re proud to be an organisational member of the ICMTA. They provide excellent CPD in the area of conscious dance and somatics. We recommend that our trainees join as student /full members. Read more here.

We further recommend our trainees to take membership and insurance with People Dancing, the foundation for community dance, which provides excellent UK-based CPD along with member insurance.

Can I have a refund if I change my mind?

As a small business we do not offer refunds after 14 days. For Level 1, as per consumer rights, you have 14 days after entering into contract to change your mind, as our fee structure provides. At this stage your application processing fee only will be retained.

For Level 2, as a professional qualification, consumer rights do not apply but we will still honour 14 days to change your mind after entering into contract and within 14 days retain only any deposit paid.

In case of serious illness preventing continuing a course, we will explore possibilities of rolling payment forward to a later training.

Who we recommend for complimentary therapies

As trainees of a movement form, it’s important that you get external support for the holistic balance of your body, to support correcting imbalances and to optimise physical health.
Some local practitioners who we recommend:

Oliver Cowmeadow, shiatsu and macrobiotics founder of  International Macrobiotic School.

Samantha Roderick
Acupuncture, founder of Totnes Community Acupuncture.

Does the School have a Code of Ethics & Conduct?

Yes! You can download the Devon School of Soul Motion Code of Ethics here.

Do you offer 1-on-1 support?

This training is primarily centered on group process, and therefore one-to-one (1:1) emotional processing is not a standard part of our offering.

At the start of the training (pre-level 1), all trainees are required to confirm that they have access to a therapist for 1:1 emotional support if needed.

We would not be available to respond to everyone’s personal material outside of structured containers. That isn’t sustainable as leaders, nor does it serve the clarity of our roles for participants.

That’s why we have clear structures and available times:

~ Group discussions within sessions

~ trainers available answer questions at lunchtime.

~ 4 one-to-one mentor sessions during Level 2 and subsequent supervision sessions available relating to personal movement practice, facilitation, boundaries required but not focused on personal process of emotional content  – for that you would need to refer to professional therapy.

~ When needed, 1:1 feedback conversations in response to significant events – to ensure learning is sufficient to meet certification.

While we focus on movement facilitation, emotions are an inherent part of learning and process. The above are spaces for emotional process only in service of learning and leadership.

Embodied presence and effective facilitation require strong relational awareness and we will facilitate enquiry into this during the programme. How we navigate interpersonal challenges is an essential and fluid part of any leader’s learning journey.

If unresolved relational tensions arise during the training – particularly those affecting emotional safety or group dynamics – we may ask a trainee to engage in a 1:1 process with a trainer or an appropriate facilitator. This step is not disciplinary; rather, it is a supported opportunity to reflect, repair, and integrate.

Engaging in this process may be necessary for certification, as we are committed to ensuring that those we certify demonstrate not only facilitation skills but also relational capacity, emotional literacy, and the ability to maintain respectful dialogue and resolution when challenges arise within the group for future service as leader.
